Serving the Communities of the Southern Tablelands

Rev Julie Furner

juie

Julie is no stranger to Goulburn, having grown up here and attended Wollondilly Public School and Mulwaree High. She’s Noel and Jan Lawton’s daughter and returned to Goulburn in 2006, bought her own home and put four children through Wollondilly Public School. Harrison , Teagan, Callum and Chloe are now students at Mulwaree High.
Julie began her ministry in the Uniting Church as a Youth Worker in the early 90’s. She was first employed by Crookwell Uniting Church, has served Uniting Churches in Wagga Wagga, Galston, Cobar and the South West Sector of Sydney. Rev Aimee Kent was one of Julie’s charges in the youth groups at Wagga. We’re both excited to have the opportunity to work together in Goulburn.
Towards the end of 2004, the Uniting Church was offering their long serving youth workers the opportunity to transition into ordained ministry. Julie undertook the necessary bridging studies and was ordained at Goulburn Uniting Church on the 13th March 2009. Julie’s first placement as a Rev was shared between Tahmoor and Camden Country where she has been for the past 8 years, 4 years ordained, 4 as an accredited youth worker.
She shares her life with Jaye, and together they enjoy gardening, the odd game of golf, catching up with friends and family, going to the movies and catching the odd live show where possible. She looks forward to reconnecting with many familiar faces, discovering who she’s distantly related to and the challenges of being a home town girl, returning to serve as a minister. Julie has a strong interest in social justice and the environment, in providing contemporary worship and especially exploring ways that God is active in the world through popular culture.
